PATROL
BOAT FOR CANADIAN COAST GUARD
A twin UltraJet 376 propulsion system propels the 48'' Fisheries Patrol Boat
"Pointe Caveau" recently designed and built by ABCO Industries, Ltd of
Lunenburg, NS. Fingertip operation of the reversing deflectors (aka buckets)
are accomplished with Ultra's two-lever electrohydraulic control of the
reversing deflectors (aka buckets). The design speed at port-departure
displacement is 30 knots. She well exceeded this speed on first sea trial.
The more important speed specification was with the boat laden with 100
lobster traps, full fuel, and larger crew compliment. The minimum specified
speed required under these conditions is 20 knots. The boat builder reported
she did an average of about 27.5 knots with full load. This boat, and her
previously launched sister-ship "Geliget" have been excellent examples of
the high power absorption capability of the UltraJet 376, even at lower boat
speeds.
